By Jared Lloyd - | Aug 11, 2022

Skyridge players take the field before the nonregion game against Orem in Lehi on Friday, Sept. 3, 2021 (Jared Lloyd, Daily Herald)

Head Coach: Jon Lehman (7th season)

2021 record: 11-2 overall, 4-1 Region 4

Playoffs: No. 3 seed, lost to No. 2 Lone Peak 20-0 in 6A semifinals

Players to Watch: Sione Westover 6-3 215 Sr. LB, Smith Snowden 5-10 168 Sr. DB, Tate Walker 5-9 170 Sr. RB, Jackson Andrus 6-0 170 Sr. WR, McCae Hillstead 5-11 175 Sr. QB

Outlook: Any team that reaches the 6A semifinals and ties for the league title in the ultra-competitive Region 4 should be proud of its accomplishments.

That’s what Skyridge did in 2021 — but now the Falcons want more.

“We have a lot of experienced guys in key positions, guys who are talented and have played a lot of football for us,” Skyridge head coach Jon Lehman said. “I’m so happy with the growth of our team since January. Our guys have high expectations and are accountable to each other but they are having fun out on the field.”

While the Falcons have the talent to be one of the top teams in Utah, they also have a tough slate of games against opponents who will force them to be at their best.

“Great teams want to be competitive and pushed to their limits,” Lehman said. “We get that every single week. It pushes our guys to have greater focus, greater discipline. We have to get better every day. Everyone feels that way but there is greater urgency when you show up on Friday and you are playing against one of the elite teams in the state. That’s a great challenge and we really appreciate it.”

Team Captains: “The leadership position that is captain is chosen by the team,” Lehman said. “That’s important to me that these guys are empowered by their team. But I have the guys apply to be captains before they are even on a ballot because I want it to be something they want. A starting point is figuring out who wants that responsibility and the added expectations. I expect those guys to serve. I believe that our leaders should be the most selfless guys on our entire team. They should be the best example of our program values on the entire team and should take that responsibility very seriously. Sometimes that’s hard. It’s hard to lead. I expect them to put everybody else first all the time.”
