Valley Top 5: Powerhouses surging to the top with playoffs on the horizon

Here is a look at which high school teams have earned the right to be recognized as the best in Utah Valley right now:

BASEBALL

1. American Fork (14-4, 8-1 Region 4)

Cavemen averaging 15 runs in eight game-winning streak

2. Lehi (21-4, 15-3 Region 8)

Pioneers have won past five games by combined score of 66-12

3. Spanish Fork (19-3, 11-1 Region 9)

BYU commit Easton Romero: Double and HR in 3-2 win v. Maple Mountain

4. Lone Peak (14-5, 7-3 Region 4)

Sweep of Skyridge puts Knights in good post-season position

5. Orem (17-5, 11-4 Region 4)

Pitching struggled in losing two of three to Jordan

SOFTBALL

1. Spanish Fork (18-4, 8-0)

The Dons have a staggering plus-83 run differential in Region 9 (92 runs for, 9 runs allowed)

2..Skyridge (18-4, 7-0)

The Falcons dropped some tough contests in a non-region tourney over the weekend.

3. Springville (17-7, 5-3)

The Red Devils bounced back from getting blown out at Wasatch by blasting Salem Hills.

4. Timpanogos (16-4, 10-1)

Can the Timberwolves repay the Pioneers for their only league defeat in the season finale on Thursday?

5. Wasatch (17-6, 7-2)

The Wasps have all the pieces to make a deep run again in the 5A playoffs..

BOYS SOCCER

1. Provo (12-2, 7-1)

It wasn’t easy to win at Salem Hille but the Bulldogs got the job done..

2. Wasatch (10-3, 6-2)

The Wasps couldn’t break through in a tough 1-0 loss at Maple Mountain.

3. Lehi (10-3, 8-2)

The Pioneer loss to Timpanogos puts Lehi a game behind Alta and a game ahead of the Timberwolves in the Region 8 standings.

4. Timpanogos (9-3, 7-3)

The Timberwolves are making a late charge, highlighted by the big road win at Lehi.

5. Pleasant Grove (10-4, 5-2)

The Vikings are firmly in second place in Region 4, but catching Corner Canyon will be tough..

BOYS LACROSSE

1. American Fork (12-1, 7-1)

Can the Cavemen put more pressure on Corner Canyon on the road on Friday than it did in the first matchup?

2. Timpview (10-3, 8-2)

The Thunderbirds struggled to overcome the Alta barrage but now need to regroup quickly.

3. Lone Peak (9-6, 4-4)

This is a decent Knight squad but it has to be stronger in all facets to compete with Corner Canyon..

4. Westlake (8-5, 4-4)

The Thunder have been gutting out tough wins, the latest coming at Pleasant Grove.

5. Orem (8-5, 6-4)

The Tigers let a late lead evaporate in a tough home loss to Lehi.

Falcons’ 18-6 victory vs. AF gives them 10 wins in a row

Kathren Moreau tough to score on (4.4 goals against average)

5. Pleasant Grove (8-4, 5-2 Region 4)
