When a state championship is on the line, great players step up their game. That’s just what Brock Watkins did for Pleasant Grove during the Viking run to the 6A championship.
Watkins went 4-for-5 with a double and a home run in the title game against rival Lone Peak while also scoring the game-winning run in the ninth inning. His solo blast in the bottom of the seventh inning tied the game and forced extra innings.
Watkins also consistently made outstanding defensive plays in the field, showing his skills on offense and defense as he helped Pleasant Grove win the championship.

For a young softball team, every moment of experience is valuable at the state tournament. For Westlake freshman Brooklyn Gramse to come through in a key situation is an even bigger confidence-builder.
Gramse stepped up to the plate in the top of the first inning of the 6A elimination game against Taylorsville with the bases loaded, then hammered the ball over the left-field fence for a grand slam.
The Thunder ended up needing every one of those runs as they held on to edge the Warriors, 9-8. Gramse hit .358 in the regular season with seven extra-base hits — but no home runs until the playoffs.
