The Orem Tigers shot just 26 percent from the field and fell 57-40 to Juan Diego Catholic in the 4A semifinal at UVU.

Orem, led by Ross Reeves with 15 points and Ike Richards with 13, finished the night with two 3-pointers, going 2-for-19 from beyond the arc.

The Tigers’ 40-point total was also their lowest of the season.

Both teams struggled to find the basket to start the game until Puka Nacua hit a pair of free throws and Reeves hit a 3-pointer to give Orem a 5-0 lead.

Jason Ricketts, who led all scorers with 21 points, then got the Soaring Eagles on the board with a field goal near the halfway mark of the first quarter.

Orem then took a 9-2 lead after Shem Johnson hit a 3-pointer with 3:06 to play in the first quarter, but from there, it was all Juan Diego as the Soaring Eagles went on a 10-2 run to take a 12-11 lead before the quarter ended.

A quick pass from Nacua to a cutting Richards tied the game at 16-16 early in the second quarter, but a 3-pointer from Ricketts started an 11-2 Soaring Eagle run that put Juan Diego on top 27-18 at halftime.

Orem ended the first half shooting 6-for-22 from the field and 2-for-8 from 3-point range.

The Tigers’ shooting woes continued in the third quarter, but Orem managed to outscore Juan Diego 13-7 to cut the Soaring Eagles’ lead to three with just over a minute to play in the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Orem made just one field goal — a layup from Reeves with 4:55 to play to make it 42-36 Juan Diego.

After that, the Eagles hit 12 free throws during a 15-3 run to end the game.

The Tigers went 1-for-17 from the field and 0-for-8 from 3-point range in the fourth quarter while Juan Diego extended its lead by going 14-for-18 from the free-throw line.

Juan Diego will face Salem Hills in the 4A championship game Saturday.
