Anyone that was watching the 6A boys basketball tournament last week knows just how good American Fork’s Tanner Cuff played.

Apparently, the USA Today was watching too.

The newspaper has named Cuff as one of its Super 25 Top Stars of the week.

Cuff scored 18 points in the championship game against rival Pleasant Grove, leading the Cavemen to the 6A title. In the semifinals against Davis, Cuff scored 25 points in the triple-overtime thriller, including the game-winning basket.

Cuff got the ball on the baseline, spun past the Dart double team, collected himself and softly laid the ball into the basket, giving the Cavemen their final points. Davis’s final desperation shot came up short and American Fork emerged with the epic, heart-stopping 82-80 3OT win.

“It was crazy,” Cuff said. “I don’t even know what to say.”

Cuff explained that the final inbounds play had some options, depending on how it was defended.

“I was trying to get a catch out high and then get a screen, but they took that,” he said. “I went to the ball and got it. That’s my post move, to go baseline and then score. I was so happy but I was like, ‘We’ve got to get a stop because there are a couple of seconds on the clock.’”

You can help Cuff be named the best of the best by voting on a poll that ends on Friday at http://bit.ly/2VGqJCV.
