Orem High School announced Friday that it has hired a new head boys basketball coach — although it didn’t have to go very far to find him.
The Tigers hired former Timpview head coach Perry Wildeboer as their new head coach. For the last few years, Wildeboer had been an assistant coach under Golden Holt (who announced his retirement at the end of the 2018-19 season).
Wildeboer has an extensive résumé that included 24 years of coaching the Thunderbirds (10 as an assistant coach and 14 as the head coach). He resigned from his position at Timpview in 2013.
Wildeboer finished with a career record of 240-79 as the head coach for the Thunderbirds, including leading state championship teams in 2000, 2003 and 2010.
He will take over a team that lost six seniors to graduation but will have leading-scorer Taft Mitchell returning to build around.
