Zach Jones

Senior golfer

Lone Peak

Golf tournaments can provide some incredibly dramatic moments but it will be hard to top what Lone Peak senior Zach Jones did to win the 2018 6A state tournament at TalonsCove golf course in Saratoga Springs.

With Davis's Cole Ponich sitting just a couple feet from the hole, Jones faced a 70-foot triple-breaking putt with the individual title on the line. He hit it perfectly, dropping it into the cup to secure medalist honors.

Jones was a leader for the Knights as Lone Peak regained its spot as the 6A state boys golf champions, beating the Darts by 28 strokes.

Anna Fellers and Maddie Austin

Junior and sophomore tennis players

Timpview

The Thunderbird girls tennis team found itself locked in a dogfight with Olympus with the 5A state championship on the line. First or second place came down to how Anna Fellers and Maddie Austin did in the No. 2 Doubles final.

Competing not only against Woods Cross's Jenna Hinkle and Payton Kossin but also against the pressure of the moment, Fellers and Austin came up big in the third set. They roared to the 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 win to win the division championship.

That victory also gave Timpview a tie with Olympus for the team crown, giving the Thunderbirds their first girls tennis title since 2013.
