State softball second round: Maple Mountain at Skyridge 08

Skyridge pitcher Marne Freeman (1) winds up for a pitch in the second inning during a game between the Skyridge Falcons and the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles in the second round of the 4A state softball tournament Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Skyridge High School in Lehi. ISAAC HALE, Daily Herald

Here’s Prep Rally’s take on which are the five best softball teams in Utah Valley right now:

1. Skyridge (15-0, 3-0)

The Falcons continue rolling, although tough road tests at Maple Mountain and Springville are on tap this week.

2. Spanish Fork (16-3, 5-0)

The Dons stayed unbeaten in Region 10 with Briley Young’s pitching gem vs. Lehi, but losses to top Class 4A teams are concerning.

3. Lehi (12-10, 5-2)

The Pioneers ended up on the short end of a pair of close games, but proved they are a factor in the league race.

4. Wasatch (11-3, 2-1)

The Wasps gave Skyridge all it could handle before losing, so they will be gunning to be a little better in the rematch.

5. Pleasant Grove (7-11, 3-0)

The Vikings are coming on strong in Region 4 and hold a solid lead in the standings.
