Park City and Desert Hills controlled the narrative of the 4A competition but some Utah Valley swimmers ended up with nice performances.

One of the most dramatic came in the boys 200-yard individual medley relay as the Lehi team pushed Desert Hills and Juan Diego to the wall. In the end, however, the Pioneers were out-touched and ended up third (just 0.21 behind the champions).

Spanish Fork sophomore Austin Butler had a good race in the 200-yard freestyle, coming second with a time of 1:45.64.

Two Orem girls also finished in the runner-up position as Tiger junior Leah Gale couldn’t quite catch Park City’s Katie Hale in the 50-yard freestyle and sophomore Addison Richards ended up second in the 200-yard individual medley.

Other solid efforts were put in by Lehi sophomore Kaylee Richards, who came in third in the girls 200-yard freestyle, and the Orem girls medley relay finished third.

In the team standings, the Tiger girls are in fourth while both the Lehi boys and girls teams are in sixth after the first day.
