Utah Valley newcomer Faith Webber scored a pair of goals in the first four minutes to lead the Wolverines to a 5-1 exhibition win over Weber State on Saturday night at Clyde Field. The Wolverines now prep for their official season opener on Thursday night at Boise State.

Utah Valley got on the scoreboard in just the third minute as Nicole Ray sent a cross in from the left side to Faith Webber. Weber then punched it into the back of the net to give the Wolverines an early 1-0 lead.

Just over a minute later, Webber outran her defender and fired a shot into the net to give Utah Valley a 2-0 advantage in the fourth minute.

Weber State countered in the 11th minute as Saydree Bell streaked down the middle of the field and sent a shot into the goal to cut the UVU lead to 2-1.

Utah Valley extended its lead in the 61st minute as Hannah Lee sent the ball to Julianna Carter on the right side. Carter then shot it past the Weber State keeper and into the next to give UVU a 3-1 lead.

Tessa Thornton beat her defender on the baseline and sent a ball into the box to Carter who then dished it to Hannah Lee. Lee fired a shot into the back of the net to give the Wolverines a 4-1 advantage in the 68th minute.

Isabella Stewart scored one last goal for the Wolverines in the 89th minute to give UVU a 5-1 lead.

Utah Valley outshot the Wildcats 18-3 on the night, including a 11-2 advantage on frame. Webber led the Wolverines with five shots, including a team-best four on frame. Lee had four shots with three on goal, while Carter had three shots with one on goal.

UVU women’s golf announces 2022-23 schedule

Utah Valley University women’s golf coach Juli Erekson has announced her team’s 2022-23 schedule, which includes the hosting of the Hobble Creek Fall Classic in September as well as taking part in nine tournaments in eight different states around the country.

“I’m looking forward to a great schedule this year with opportunities to match up against teams we do not always get to face,” said Erekson. “I’m excited to have our returning players and the addition of five new players, which will create a strong and creative travel squad. We’re anticipating the start at our own Hobble Creek Classic hosting 18 teams. It’s a great start to the beginning of the season.”

The Wolverines will open the 2022-23 season by hosting the Hobble Creek Fall Classic, Sept. 12-13, at beautiful Hobble Creek Golf Course in Springville. It will mark the ninth time that the team has hosted the tournament since the 2013 season. UVU’s best finish at the home tournament came in 2018 when the team earned a runner-up finish with a program-record 54-hole score of 879.

Following the Hobble Creek Fall Classic, the squad will travel to Colorado to compete in the Ram Classic, Sept. 26-27, at Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins. UVU will then travel to Washington for Seattle U’s Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, Oct. 3-4, at Tacoma Country Club.

The Wolverines will wrap up fall play as the team travels to Nevada to take part in The Clash at Boulder Creek, Oct. 23-25, at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City. UVU’s Victoria Estrada won the program’s first-ever individual WAC Championship at Boulder Creek Golf Club in 2021 after firing a 2-under-par 214 (74-69-71).

After the team’s winter break, Utah Valley will open the spring season at the Weber State/Utah Tech Invitational, Feb. 13-14, at Green Springs Golf Course in Washington, Utah. The Wolverines then head to The Golden State to play in the GCU Invitational, Feb. 27-28, at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, California.

Utah Valley will travel to Hawaii to compete in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, March 27-29, at Hoakalei Country Club in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. Following the trip to paradise, the Wolverines make the trip to Texas to participate in the Lamar Cardinal Challenge, April 3-4, at Beaumont Country Club in Beaumont.

UVU will wrap up regular season play at the Cougar Collegiate, April 10-11, at Riverside Country Club in Provo. It will be a final tune-up for the WAC Championship, which will take place April 23-25 at Semiahmoo Country Club in Blaine, Washington.

The Wolverines welcome back five returning letterwinners from last year’s squad in Estrada, Anna Lesa, Caylyn Ponich, Leighton Shosted, and Lauren Taylor.
