Utah Valley University baseball outfielder Mitch Moralez signed a professional contract to play with the West Side Wooly Mammoths of the United Shore Professional Baseball League. This is the second Wolverine to sign with the USPBL, as Jake Mayer played in 2018 with the USPBL before signing with the Seattle Mariners.

Moralez led UVU in batting average the last three seasons and left UVU with a career .321 average. In 2022, Moralez hit .366 with six home runs, including a two-home run game against in-state rival Utah in April. He finished eighth in the WAC with 82 hits and drove in a career-high 27 runs in 2022.

UVU head coach Eddie Smith said, “Mitch Moralez was the anchor of our lineup this season and the heart and soul of our team. He propelled us to recent highs as a program with the bat and was a great representative of our program. I am so excited that Mitch has signed a contract with the West Side Wooly Mammoths and gets to begin his professional baseball career!”

Utah Valley now has two alums in professional baseball, with Moralez joining Paxton Schultz, who is playing with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Double-A) of the Toronto Blue Jays.

The USPBL is a four-team league based in Utica, Michigan. All games are played at Jimmy Johns Field in Utica. The league was founded in 2016 and has seen 45 players signed into MLB-affiliated organizations.
