UVU sophomore Nicole Ray passes the ball during the game against Colorado College in Orem on Monday, Aug. 22, 2022.

Nicole Ray and Heather Stainbrook each scored two second-half goals to lead Utah Valley to a 6-1 win over Idaho State on Saturday night at Clyde Field, extending its home unbeaten streak to 11 games.

Utah Valley remains unbeaten this season and improves to 3-0-2, while Idaho State falls to 1-2-2 on the year.

“We’re proud of the girls for their effort tonight,” said Utah Valley associate head coach Kyle Christensen. “Our players responded well coming out of halftime and came out with a lot more energy and a lot more commitment to getting in the attack. We were able to rest some players in the second half and get some players experience to get ready for next week.”

Utah Valley got on the scoreboard in the 10th minute after Heather Stainbrook dribbled her way through defenders near the top of the box and sent a pass to the left side to Faith Webber. Webber then fired a shot with her right foot towards the far post that got past the Idaho State keeper and into the net to give Utah Valley an early 1-0 lead.

Idaho State’s Rachel Fullmer sent a ball into the box from the right side and Deborah Pond sent a shot with her left foot and into the goal to give the Bengals the equalizer, tying the game at 1-1 in the 25th minute.

Webber took the ball down on the right side toward the goal line and weaved her way through a pair of ISU defenders before firing a cross in front of the goal where Nicole Ray headed it into the goal to give UVU a 2-1 advantage.

Julianna Carter sent a shot towards the goal the 54th minute that was deflected by an ISU defender. Ray found the rebound and kicked it past the goal line with her left foot to cushion UVU’s lead to 3-1.

Ray took a shot inside the box that deflected off a defender and back outside the box on the right side where Stainbrook fired a shot from 40 yards out that made its way to the upper right corner and into the net to give the Wolverines a 4-1 advantage in the 66th minute.

Stainbrook did it again just over a minute later in the 68th minute as she sent a free kick outside the front of the box into the left side of the goal to put UVU up, 5-1.

Haley Richardson gathered the ball and sent it to Jocelyn Bybee who back flicked it to Isabella Stewart who found the back of the next to extend the UVU lead to a 6-1 advantage in the 87th minute.

Utah Valley outshot Idaho State 20-3, including an 11-1 advantage on frame. Webber led UVU with five shots, including two on frame. Stainbrook, Carter, and Ray each had three shots.

Utah Valley continues play at home on Tuesday against SEC foe Alabama at Clyde Field. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
