Standalone: BYU birthday party 01

Brigham Young University freshman Emma Wilkinson dances with friends during a celebration of Brigham Young University’s 144th birthday Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, at the Wilkinson Student Center on the university’s campus in Provo. Cougars past, present and future all came together Friday evening to celebrate the birthday of Brigham Young University, which was founded 144 years ago as of Wednesday. “In the past the event has been a homecoming dance, but this year we’re combining it all into one big party,” said Kayla Carruth, vice president of experiences with the Brigham Young University Student Services Association. Carruth explained that festivities included a black-light dance, glow stations, birthday cake, a magician, bowling, karaoke, table tennis, board games and balloon drop at the end of the dance. “There’s nothing like homecoming,” said Kelsey Jardine, team chair of experiences with BYUSA. There’s something about coming back to your roots where you’ve put so much of your blood, sweat and tears into this university. We want students to have a positive experience where they can come and build relationships with each other and strengthen their relationship with BYU.” Isaac Hale, Daily Herald
