Back-to-school means most embarrassing dad is back
Back-to-school in American Fork means the world’s most embarrassing dad is again waving goodbye. This is week 2 of year 3 for Dale Price, the American Fork dad who found worldwide fame after a Daily Herald front-page story profiled his morning routine of waving his son at the bus stop in a different costume every day.
And news organizations the world over have waved back, as his story went viral from Australia to Turkey; last spring TV crews from Japan visited the man in American Fork. This summer, a reporter and chief bureau for russian Channel One in Washington, D.C., wanted to profile Mr. Price.

Dale Price had no intention of doing an entire school year worth of costumes, but it turned out that way. He simply went out to wave to his son, Rain, on the bus as he started his sophomore year at American Fork High School. Price was wearing San Diego Chargers memorabilia that morning and it started the trend, which grew exponentially from there. The family blog shows the 170 costumes he wore for the daily morning wave (this year, he only dons a disguise once a week). From cross dressing as Wonder Woman or a unicorn princess to getting decked out as Gene Simmons from KISS or the video game character Mario, he puts great effort into the gag. And now there is even an iPhone app.
In his weekly appearance, Dale Price waved today at the bus dressed as Igor, the hunchbacked evil scientist’s assistant, who was depicted in a 2008 animated movie. Last week? He was wearing swim trunks, a swim cap and medals. On his Facebook page, which is nearing 10,000 likes, Mr. Price puts a disclaimer next to that picture: “Photo may not actually be Michael Phelps, but merely a representation of such.”
