The Utah Power and Light Company rejected the ten-year franchise which was offered them by the American Fork City Council Monday evening. The city, for the present time will operate without a franchise, until an agreeable compromise can be made.

Mrs. Susie Birk will note her 84th Birthday Anniversary on Saturday, Dec. 1, 1962 with her family calling on her at her home throughout the day.
Mrs. Birk was born in American Fork on Dec. 1, 1878, a daughter of John J. and Sarah Briggs Jones. She has been a native of American Fork most of her life. She married Louis Birk on Feb. 1, 1900, in American Fork. Mrs. Birk makes her home at 163 Grant Ave. She is the mother of five children, four of whom are still living. She has 14 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren.

The American Fork $600,000 sewer project will be ready for connection on Dec. 1, according to Ray Nelson, city manager. First bills for sewage service will be sent out on April 1 for those connections using the sewer during March 1953.

Orville Gunther recently elected to the Utah House of Representatives, may introduce a bill in the coming legislature to have “drivers education” compulsary in the state’s secondary schools.

Fire struck unexpectedly early Wednesday and caused considerable damage in the Rollo Miller home in the 4th Ward. The fire completely destroyed the interior of the home and much of its contents. All furniture and the clothing in the back rooms of the house were completely destroyed. Some furniture in the two front rooms was saved.

The American Fork football team finished their 1932 season in great style when they beat Spanish Fork Friday for a decisive victory. The score was 7-6 but since it was the Beetdiggers only defeat it made the victory of the locals seem much greater. Outstanding players on the team were Durrant, Dayton, and Fred Healey, Holman, Nicholes, Davis, Burgess and Devitt.

Miss Betty Houston celebrated her tenth birthday this week by entertaining several of her little friends at a party. Boyd Codington and Beth Ann Allen were prize winners in the spoof game. Refreshments followed.
