Cross country team captured both divisions of the Nebo

The American Fork cross country team captured both divisions of the Nebo Invitational on Friday.

In the girls varsity division, the Cavemen finished with 50 points to outdistance second-place Maple Mountain with 87 points.

Among other local programs, Salem Hills was fifth with 131, Provo was seventh at 225 and Lone Peak rounded out the top 10 at 287.

For American Fork, Makayla Stepp was the top individual finisher at third with a 19:52 mark.

Diane Leach was 10th, Maddie Bench 11th, Emily Orton 12th and Sophie Baird 14th for the counted scores, but following right behind were Amber Bardin in 15th and Lexi Green in 16th.

The margin of victory was even bigger for the Caveman boys, who placed all five scoring runners in the top 10 and finished with 30 points, outpacing Bonneville in second with a 70.

Other area placers included Lone Peak third at 114, Springville sixth at 221, Salem Hills ninth at 283 and Provo 10th at 311. Lehi was 11th and Maple Mountain 12th.

Individually, American Fork’s Connor McMillan came in third at 16:03. 3, with Tyson Green fourth, Brayden McLelland fifth, Zachary Jacklin eighth and Spencer Herzog ninth. Caleb Thompson and Tyler Bell rounded out the squad.
