Despite bizarre strategy, Bingham basketball powerless against American Fork
The Miners, who had won three consecutive games, were routed by American Fork, in a showdown giving the Cavemen second place in Region 4 with one game left in the regular season.
The 53-36 win in South Jordan Friday night came after a bewildering 21-7 lead at half-time.
Cavemen trailed for the last time in the second quarter, 7-6. But thanks to a 15-2 run, peppered with three-pointers, the Cavemen kept the Miners in their rear-view mirrors.
Kyle Line led with 19 points. Brendan Bailey scored 9 points, Ryan Andrus, 8, and Daniel Nyman and Taylor Larsen combined for 12.
In a bizarre move, Bingham held on to the ball for three consecutive minutes in the first quarter, slowing down the tempo of the game, as it began to slip away in a 6-3 trail.
