AFPD says woman lifted $8,000 from employer

An American Fork employer reported last week a series of thefts spanning six months and totaling more than $8,000.
American Fork police officers were advised last Monday of employee thefts that had occurred from June to December 2012, the latest sign that local businesses continue to grapple with employee misconducts on top of a tough economic environment. According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, three out of four employees will steal in some shape or form from their employers this year.
At the center of the crisis, American Fork police moved to arrest Jody Christensen Barnes for stealing cash from her employer, Intermountain Healthcare. Ms. Barnes, a 48-year-old resident of Lehi, was confronted in December, when a review showed she had misappropriated $8,047.48.
According to reports, AFPD found evidence that Ms. Barnes had taken cash deposits from her employer and used the cash for personal expenses. She then used the cash from subsequent deposits to cover her tracks. When she was interviewed by the police, Ms. Barnes admitted to the allegations.
