Slow start keeps Cavemen girls from ditching Miners
The American Fork girls’ basketball team was as cold as ice in the first half of a showdown with Region 4 rival Bingham on Thursday night, ultimately leading the No. 1 ranked Miners to win over No. 3 Cavemen.
The Cavemen (15-3, 5-1), who scored just one point in the first quarter and trailed 19-4 at the break, came back to outscore Bingham (17-0, 6-0) 34-14 in the second half, but couldn’t overcome that first-half deficit as the Miners went on to a 43-38 victory, remaining undefeated on the season. The Miners got 13 points each from Mackenzie Bruggeman and Jillian Powell. Amy Bergeson led the Cavemen with 10 points.
