The Big Show from Down Under: Little River Band to headline Steel Days
Steel Days will add a little Aussie flavor to their annual celebration, thanks to the musical hits of the Little River Band.
Little River Band, known for their ’70s and ’80s hits “Lonesome Loser,” “Lady” and “Help Is On Its Way,” will take stage as part of the Steel Days Big Show/Fireworks Display on Saturday, July 20, at American Fork High School.
Formed originally in Melbourne, Australia in 1975, Little River Band started enjoying their success in their home country before becoming radio staples in the United States with good songwriting, powerful vocals, and guitar harmonies.
Having sold more than 25 million records and achieving 13 U.S. Top 40 hits, Little River Band’s Steel Days performance will be filled with great nostalgic songs sure to appeal to audiences young and old. The band will also be performing new singles from their upcoming album, “Cuts Like a Diamond,” set to be released in late August.
”The Lost and the Lonely,” the first single off the new album, officially releases July 8, just prior to the band’s Steel Days performance.
Little River Band lead singer and bassist Wayne Nelson says “the songs that appear on the album were either written by the band, or submitted to us by other songwriters from the U.S. and Europe. We worked closely with label President/A&R Manager, Serafino Perugino, to choose songs that reflect the style and heart of LRB in it’s 38th year. That process took a little more time than usual, but the end result was well worth the effort. Once chosen, we tailored all the songs into the traditional Little River Band mold … smooth arrangements with lots of vocals and guitar harmonies.”
Through the years Little River Band has thrived as a highly respected and constantly in-demand outfit, going about their craft with a dedication to excellence and professionalism that few, if any, can match.
The band nowadays is stronger than ever: There is a new element of youthfulness and vitality, anchored by leader and consummate lead vocalist / bass guitarist Wayne Nelson, who began his Little River Band career in 1980.
The evening’s events will begin with a musical performance by Firefly, a trio of lovely sisters known for their distinctive and infectious sound.
This charming group of girls has been called the best country pop trio since the Dixie Chicks. They have opened for Carrie Underwood, Zac Brown, LeAnn Rimes, Jimmy Eat World, Martina McBride and Justin Bieber.
