Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra to play free concert in the park

By American Fork Citizen - | Jun 22, 2013

Hosted by American Fork City, the Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra will present a free outdoor concert on Monday, June 24 at 7:00 p.m., an evening of light classics and movie favorites that will take place in the historic outdoor amphitheater at Quail Cove. Highlights include:

1. Movie music from Raiders of the Lost Ark, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park, and others.

2. An encore performance of Mendelssohn’s violin concerto, third movement, with Rebekah Willey, a winner in the TSO’s Aspiring Musicians competition

3. An encore performance from Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, led by Johannes Bowman, winner in the conducting division of the TSO’s Aspiring Musicians competition, featured by the Provo Daily Herald in this article.

4. A sneak preview of the TSO’s forthcoming Broadway Classics concert, featuring national Broadway touring artist Jeffrey Pew singing “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'” and other favorites from the Rodgers and Hammerstein collection.

Also at this performance, concert-goers will be given a chance to conduct the TSO. For each donation of one dollar, symphony supporters will receive a numbered ticket to be entered in a drawing. The lucky winner will be given a quick, behind-the-scenes conducting lesson by the TSO’s conductor, John Pew, and will then lead the orchestra in John Philip Sousa’s The Stars and Stripes Forever.

The Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of John Pew, presents great classical music and top-flight performing artists to live audiences in north Utah County. It receives in-kind sponsorship from the Highland City Arts Council, the Alpine Community Arts Council, and the Lehi City Arts Council.

It has added this concert as one of two bonus performances in the month of June to complete its second full season. The second performance, Broadway Classics, is a ticketed event and will take place at Timberline Middle School in Alpine on Wednesday, June 26.
