AF Lyceum Philharmonic to join Peter Breinholt for special folk concert at Thanksgiving Point
American Fork-based American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic, who was most recently seen on The Piano Guys’ national PBS Special performing Beethoven’s 5 Secrets, joins nationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Peter Breinholt on May 10 for an evening of folk music under the stars at the Waterfall Amphitheatre at Thanksgiving Point.
The “Fork Music Then & Now” concert is a rare opportunity to hear Peter Breinholt’s music benefitted by the lush sounds of a 75-piece symphony orchestra from American Fork. “I had heard about the Lyceum Philharmonic — about how they had won Best of State year after year,” Mr. Breinholt said. “But when I rehearsed with them for the first time, I was amazed. Hearing my music backed up by a full symphony orchestra, it just blows away! These musicians and these arrangements are breathing new life into songs.”
The Lyceum Philharmonic, made of accomplished, high-school aged musicians who participate in the after-school program at American Heritage School in American Fork, have performed with David Archuleta, The 5 Browns, Alex Boye, Jenny Oaks Baker, Paul Cardall, Michael Ballam, Dallyn Vail Bayles, George Dyer, Jordan Bluth and Cactus Jack La MARR. It recently released its first commercial album entitled Hearts & Minds, featuring sacred LDS music alongside popular and classical masterworks by Mahler, Bernstein and others.
“We perform a lot of Bach, Brahms and Beethoven, but I can’t tell how much we enjoy Breinholt!” said Lyceum Philharmonic Conductor Kayson Brown. “The opportunity for these young musicians to perform living and breathing folk music with a world-class folk artist like Peter is more than an education… it’s a lot of fun!”
