After giving up 5 home runs, American Fork baseball falls to Layton, exits playoffs

By Beky Beaton - | May 24, 2013

The American Fork baseball team gave up five home runs and made three errors in Wednesday’s elimination game against Layton at UVU’s Brent Brown Ballpark, and that proved to be just too much to overcome as the Cavemen fell to the Lancers 7-5 to exit the playoffs.

The major damage came at the hands of Parker Kincade, who ironically played with American Fork’s Riley Ottesen at Lone Peak in 2011 and was also with the Knights last season.

He went 4-for-4 in this contest, with three home runs. Two of those were solo shots, but the third came with one out in the bottom of the seventh and won the game for the Lancers. He accounted for four of their seven runs.

He also relieved started Jaden Trujillo in the second inning, when American Fork had a 4-1 advantage, and held them to a single score the rest of the outing.

Except for those long balls, the Caveman pitchers did a solid job. There were just four other hits and only one walk, but it’s pretty difficult to take scoring drives out of the equation.

American Fork’s fielding has been very tight throughout the playoffs, but the mistakes today didn’t help them.

Brock Lamb went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, continuing the good contributions from the lower end of the lineup which had helped the Cavemen get this far. Ottesen and Koy Dibb also were 2-for-4 in this contest.

American Fork finishes the season with an 18-9 record. They went 3-2 in the tournament, with the two losses coming by two runs each.
