American Fork Fire Department celebrates Memorial Day by cooking for the community
It’s breakfast time once again for the citizens of American Fork, as the Fire Department attracted hundreds of locals, beginning with a wail of the siren tower at 6:30 a.m. Monday morning and a Memorial Day ceremony.
Continuing a tradition of many years, the American Fork Fire Department served the community with a hardy meal on Memorial Day — not only to raise funds, but also to show its appreciation for those it serves. “We get an average of about 1,100 people per year who show up at these events,” Chief Kriss Garcia said Monday.
While the food, which has been donated by Fresh Market and cooked into a delicious day-starter, seemed to be the main attraction, the Department treated the community to several equipment exhibits, from trucks to helicopters, and souvenirs. As in past years, it was a winning combination — a good time and a full stomach.
