By 12:01 a.m., 3 babies were already born in Utah in 2014; AF’s first delivery of the year was a boy

By American Fork Citizen - | Jan 2, 2014

A girl was the first baby born in Utah County in 2014, tied for the first baby born in the state this year.

While people all across Utah were still sharing their first kisses of 2014 and ringing in the New Year with noise makers, toasts and fireworks, doctors and nurses at Utah County hospitals were busy delivering babies.

American Fork Hospital’s first 2014 baby was born at dawn on January 1st. The boy was born to Jake and Ellyce Fenn, of American Fork, at 5:02 a.m. But the delivery was not Utah County’s first.

At Timpanogos Regional Hospital, May Shelly Mildenstein made her way into the world just a few seconds after midnight, officially born at 12:00:03 a.m. At 6 pounds 14 ounces and 19 inches long, the youngest of three with two older brothers ages 5 and 2, May was the first baby born in Utah County and tied for the first baby born in Utah in 2014. A baby boy was born at Jordan Valley Hospital in West Jordan at the same time.

Less than a minute after May, another baby was born just down the hall at Timpanogos Regional. Shayla Welsch and Rickey Dawson welcomed a baby boy at 12:01 a.m., the third baby born in Utah in 2014.

Utah Valley Regional Medical Center welcomed its first baby of the new year at 12:55 a.m. when a baby boy was born to Michael and Candace Larson of Orem. Utah County’s fourth was American Fork’s baby at 5:02 a.m. (The first delivery of Utah County in 2013 didn’t take place until 5:10 a.m.)

Finally, Cameronne and Justin Moody of Provo were the first parents to welcome a baby at Orem Community hospital on New Year’s Day when their baby girl was born at 1:13 p.m.

Starting at $4.32/week.
