Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra presents Movie Music Spectacular on June 20 and 21

By Staff | Jun 18, 2014

Audiences will be flying with dragons, chickens, and superheroes when the Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra presents its Movie Music Spectacular on Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21, at Timberline Middle School in Alpine.

The music pays tribute to such Hollywood legends as Henry Mancini, John Williams, and Elmer Bernstein, and ranges from the sublimely beautiful Gabriel’s Oboe to the energetic Mission: Impossible theme. Other selections include themes from Schindler’s List, How to Train Your Dragon, Chicken Run, The Pink Panther, Chariots of Fire, Pirates of the Caribbean – and many more.

Live program notes will be provided by special guest Dr. Luke Howard, professor of music at Brigham Young University, who will introduce each of the pieces on the program.

About Luke Howard: Luke Howard earned his bachelor’s degree in music education and piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 1991, and an M.A. in Music History at Brigham Young University in 1994.  He received the Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in 1997, specializing in music of the twentieth century.  After teaching at Minnesota State University Moorhead and the University of Missouri Kansas City, Dr. Howard returned in 2002 to the School of Music at Brigham Young University where he teaches music history and Western cultural history.
