American Fork HS Marching Band prepares for 2nd Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

By Danny Crivello - | Nov 17, 2014

On Nov. 27, the American Fork High School Marching Band will march in their second Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

It was 2007 when the band last marched in this prestigious parade, and the Macy’s Parade committee has extended a rare second invitation for the band to perform.

In a Macy’s Send-Off Concert on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 7pm in the new AFHS Gym, the public will be treated to the same performance that will be shared with the nation during the parade and on the famous Macy’s Star. The band will also play from their field show the music that placed it 1st in the state and garnered the Championship award at the Bands of America St. George Western Regional. Both a representative from Gov. Herbert’s office and the mayor of American Fork are expected to attend to congratulate the band.

The American Fork band members have two remaining rehearsals, on Nov. 17 and 19, before they load their instruments and luggage on a jam-packed, 52-foot semi-trailer truck. On Monday, Nov. 24, five airline flights will transport 220 students and 200 proud parents to New York City.

“This is a terrific honor to our program, district and state to be invited a second time to perform in what is considered to be the premier parade in the world,” band director John Miller said. “The students are excited and working very hard to represent our state in the best manner possible. I hope people will turn on their televisions on November 27 and join with us as we march down the Macy’s Parade route.”
