NEW ALBUM HONORS PROPHET

By Daily Herald - | Dec 31, 2008

On the anniversary of Joseph Smith’s birth, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir released their newest CD, “Praise to the Man: Songs Honoring the Prophet Joseph.”

The album is a musical tribute to the life and mission of Joseph Smith, the founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“Praise to the Man” is perhaps more uniquely “Mormon” than any album the choir has released before. The album’s repertoire focuses on songs about the Prophet Joseph and veloved hymns of the restoration. The CD’s release, which coincides with the 203rd anniversary of Joseph Smith’s birth, is also timed to complement church curriculum, which will focus for the second year on the teachings of the Prophet Joseph.

“This is a unique project which we are very honored to bring to Latter-day Saint homes and families,” said Mack Wilberg, music director of the choir and orchestra. “Our hope is that this wonderful music will uplift and inspire individuals as they study the life and times of this remarkable man. We have even included songs from “The Children’s Songbook” that talk about Joseph Smith so that there is something on the CD for even our youngest listeners.”

The 12-track collection is comprised entirely of hymns and arrangements which have never been recorded by the choir before.

Included are beloved LDS humns and songs, some arranged by Wilberg, plus new arrnagements by Sam Cardon, Nathan Hofheins and Tabernacle Organist, Richard Elliott.

This is the 16th album produced by the Mormon Tabernacle Chooir on its own label. The 360-member choir is accompanied by the 110-member Orchestra at Temple Square.

“Praise to the Man” is available at Deseret Book, deseretbook.com and wherever inspirational music is sold. For more information on the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and it many products, as well as upcoming concert dates and locations, to go mormontabernaclechoir.org.
