Helen Westerlund 90th Birthday

By Daily Herald - | Nov 19, 2008

Helen E. Westerlund, formerly of Pleasant Grove and American Fork, turns 90 years old, Saturday, November 29th. Please join us as we celebrate with her at an open house that day from 2 to 4 p.m. (November 29) at the American Fork Senior Citizens Center, 54 East Main Street.

Helen was born on Wren’s Nest, the Anderson family farm, November 29, 1918, in Centerville, South Dakota. She attended the University of South Dakota and taught school in Centerville’s rural community. Raymond S. Westerlund of Chicago (deceased, 1972) won her heart and they married in California in 1944. Helen and Ray moved to Provo in 1947 where Ray was foreman of the Roll Shop at Geneva Steel. Helen remained a gracious homemaker, served hundreds of her famous apple pies to countless friends and family, and was actively involved in Christ Evangelical Church where she still attends, playing the piano and organ throughout the years.

Helen and Ray are the parents of two children, John (Gail), Flagstaff, AZ and Janet, Seattle, WA, and three grandchildren, Brittany Jo Cole (deceased, 1986) Katie of Tempe, AZ, and Marty, currently serving a LDS mission in Salt Lake City.

The Utah Valley has been home for Helen for sixty one years! The gifts of your presence, your memories and stories are requested.
