AF SYMPHONY CONCERT

Music from the movies “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” and “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” will be featured as part of the American Fork Symphony’s annual holiday concert on Monday, Dec. 1.

With the theme “A Christmas Celebration with Harry Potter,” the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the American Fork High School auditorium, 510 N. 600 East, American Fork. Admission is $3 ($10 per family). Dr. Terry Hill will serve as conductor.

The concert has been designed to appeal to adults and children alike. In addition to the selections from the popular Harry Potter films, the orchestra will perform a wide variety of traditional Christmas favorites along with music from Broadway musicals and movies that have holiday themes.

The medley “Christmas on Broadway” includes favorites such as “We Need a Little Christmas” from the musical “Mame” and “It’s Beginning to Look Like Christmas” from “Here’s Love.” “Christmas at the Movies”will feature music from films such as “The Polar Express” and “Home Alone.”

The symphony will also perform an exciting arrangement of the popular “Carol of the Bells” and Leroy Anderson’s beloved “Sleigh Ride.” A rare arrangement of “White Christmas” from the film “Holiday Inn” will also be performed.

American Fork Symphony Conductor Dr. Terry Hill is a graduate of Brigham Young University where he was honored as the outstanding music education major. He completed his graduate work at the University of Arizona, where he held a teaching assistantship with the orchestra and was assistant conductor of the university opera while earning a doctorate in instrumental conducting.

His career has included work as a conductor, educator and violist. Hill taught music in Provo School District for 24 years and is a popular guest conductor and adjudicator throughout the West. He was director of the Utah Valley Youth Symphony and recently retired from Utah Valley State College where he was an associate professor of music and director of orchestral studies.

He is now teaching music and conducting in Las Vegas, Nev.
