Helen McAllister celebrates 98th birthday
MT. PLEASANT– Helen C. McAllister, Mt. Pleasant, recently celebrated her 98th birthday with a family dinner at the home of a daughter.
She was born Feb. 9, 1911, in Paris, ID. She spent her early years between the family ranch near the Wyoming border and the family home in Idaho.
She attended Brigham Young University from 1929 to 1934 and in her senior year, she was elected student body vice-principle. She graduated in 1934 with a degree in drama and English. Following graduation, she taught high school in Vernal and Beaver.
From 1949 to 1966, she lived in Petaluma CA; and served in many ward and stake leadership positions in LDS Primary and YWMIA. In 1965, she returned to Utah and worked at the medical school library at the University of Utah. She later completed her masters degree in library science at the University of Washington.
She married John McAllister Nov. 3, 1973. When he died, she continued to live in Mt. Pleasant. She was called to work in the Provo and Manti LDS Temples and in 1987, she served in the Taiwan LDS Mission in the temple and served a second mission to the same temple in 1990.
Her family includes Clark and Linda Brockbank, Fairfax, VA; Wayne and Nancy Brockbank, Alpine; Bret and Anne Woodard, Helper; Jack and Joan McAllister, Mt. Pleasant; and Scott and Lora McAllister, Salt Lake City. She has 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
