SMA VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH + pic Lassen
Ever want to make your mark in the community? You may want to try what Nanette Lassen does.
A resident of Springville, Lassen works at the Springville Museum of Art as a desk volunteer. She is also treasurer of the Hafen-Dallin Volunteer Guild and has volunteered at the museum for about 2 1/2 years. This month Lassen was named Volunteer of the Month.
Lassen’s favorite part of volunteering is greeting and talking to visitors as they come into the museum. She is very good at making visitors feel welcome.
She also enjoys getting to know the museum employees and other volunteers. Lassen says they are “awesome.” She has learned how “hard the employees work at the museum and that they are extremely dedicated to its success.”
A former banker, Lassen loves learning about the art and the artists, and, of course, looking at the art works. She is amazed at the fine artistic talent that exists in Utah. She said that she has a “new appreciation for the artists and their works and how each interprets his art.” Lassen encourages anyone who is thinking of becoming a volunteer to do it. She said, “I was very reluctant to volunteer myself until I finally did. Now I am so glad I come. I love volunteering.”
She is also involved with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), serving on their advisory council. This overlaps the volunteers at the Art Museum. Many of the volunteers at the museum come through RSVP. RSVP also has other opportunities to serve in the community, such as in education, environment, public service, health, human services and other miscellaneous services.
Lassen is married to Eugene Lassen and they have two children, Leanette Lassen and Darryn Lassen, and two grandchildren, Hunter and Kaylee.
