UTAH MUSIC TEACHERS

By Daily Herald - | Feb 25, 2009

The Utah Music Teachers Association recently recognized students from all over the state for their accomplishments in this year’s UMTA/MTNA Performance Competitions.

First place winners of each division went on to compete in the MTNA Southwest Division Performance Competition held in Tuscan, Arizona. There Natalie Coombs won the Senior SW Piano Solo Division and will go on to compete in the MTNA National Finals to be held in late March, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Each year they have members of the organization who are tested to become Nationally Certified Teachers of Music through the guidelines that the Music Teachers National Association has set. This is quite a challenging process and takes a lot of time as well as effort.

Alena Hicken Hall from the BYU Student Chapter NCTM, Carla Cleavinger, NCTM from the Vernal Chapter and Marla Gault, NCTM from the Sandy Chapter are the newest members of UMTA to become National Certified Teachers of Music with MTNA in 2008.

The UMTA Concerto Competition/Evaluation to be held March 6 and 7. The Concerto Competition Winners Concert will be held in the Assembly Hall on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Mar. 18.

This concert is free to the public. It gives these students a chance to shine and show our community their special talents.

Teachers as well as anyone interested in music, please mark your calendars to attend the Annual UMTA Convention, Oct. 23-24 at the Davis Conference Center in Layton. Guest clinicians will be John Weems and Ann Collins.

UMTA/MTNA Performance Competitions will be held at the conference center so they will be able enjoy listening them as well.

Starting at $4.32/week.
