LaRue was born in Rexburg, Idaho. She graduated from BYU, then married Elmer Sims in the Salt Lake Temple on June 26, 1946. Elmer passed away in 1995. LaRue retired after working at BYU for 21 years. She stays actively involved serving in the LDS church and DUP. She enjoys attending BYU basketball games, writing numerous histories and working on her many “projects”.

Her family includes 8 children: Kathleen (Bruce) Flygare; Boyd, dec. (Susan); Rolayne (Barry) Edwards;

Lynnette (Warren) Child; Marjean Farrer, dec. (Terry); Marvin (Deann); Joel, dec.; and JaVan; 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
