PUBLIC COMMENT/PUBLIC HEARING

INFORMATION MEETING

The Executive Secretary of the Utah Solid and Hazardous Waste Control Board is soliciting public comments on the April 2010 revised draft Site Management Plan (SMP) and the draft Environmental Covenant for The Ensign-Bickford Company (EBCo) site located near the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon at the junction of Highways 6 and 89, Spanish Fork, Utah. The draft SMP includes details on the long-term management controls, and activity and use limitations for the areas where residual contamination will remain after extensive site remediation. The draft Environmental Covenant will obligate EBCo and any successors to comply with the activity and use limitations for the areas where residual contamination will remain.

The public comment period for the draft SMP and Environmental Covenant will commence on Thursday, May 6, 2010, when the public notice shall be published in the Salt Lake Tribune, Deseret Morning News, the Daily Herald and the Spanish Fork Press. The comment period will conclude at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 7, 2010. For the public’s convenience, a copy of the draft SMP and the Environmental Covenant may be viewed on the Division’s webpage at http://www.hazardouswaste.utah.gov/Public/Adobe/SMP_Ensign-Bickford.pdf. In addition, during normal business hours, hard copies of the draft SMP and Environmental Covenant will be available for public review at the following locations:

During this public comment period, two public information meetings will be held, one on May 12, 2010, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and one on May 13, 2010, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Both information meetings will be held in the Mapleton City Hall, Mapleton City, Utah. In addition, a pubic hearing will be held on June 2, 2010, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Mapleton City Hall, Mapleton City, Utah. Written comments will be accepted until 6:00 p.m. on June 7, 2010, and should be addressed to:
