How common is sense?

By Randy Wright - | Jun 28, 2012

In view of recent destructive wildfires, cities all over Utah are creating or promising to enforce restrictions on fireworks as the Fourth of July holiday approaches. Gov. Gary Herbert on Wednesday urged local governments to evaluate their fireworks policies.

Some are taking the call more seriously than others. In Woodland Hills, for example, it’s zero tolerance for any and all fireworks. Many other cities have new restrictions. (See article here for details.)

Salem was pretty ho-hum about it all. “We will follow state law and no illegal fireworks are allowed. We urge citizens to use common sense and be safe,” Police Chief Brad James said.

Somehow that’s not very reassuring. There is always one more imbecile than you counted on.
