Miniature golf summit for Hatch and Liljenquist
Sen. Orrin Hatch has decided to skip a Saturday meet-the-candidates picnic in Payson. His opponent in the U.S. Senate race, Dan Liljenquist, will be there. Maybe that’s why Hatch declined.
So where will Hatch be? Playing miniature golf at Trafalga in Lehi and eating pizza. Nothing wrong with politics and pizza, mind you. But in light of all the bile spilled by Liljenquist over Hatch’s refusal to debate, something needs to be done to get these guys together.
I have a suggestion: Instead of having a debate, why not get Hatch to invite Liljenquist to go miniature golfing and just have a conversation? The two could commune like gentlemen about the issues facing America without the circus atmosphere and tit-for-tat sound bites of a formal debate setting. It would be a sort of “Camp David light.” An audio recording of the conversation would be most enlightening to voters.
And what better place than Trafalga, with its fake Mount Rushmore, to stage a momentous political dialogue? The visages of the great presidents, even though made of composite materials, should be enough to prevent the two rivals from pulling out their switchblades.
