“Twilight” gives while sucking

By Randy Wright - | Oct 16, 2012

When the “Twilight” saga first hit movie theaters, my wife and I felt we had to attend. We weren’t part of the craze; we simply wanted to know what our daughters were being subjected to. I was not prepared for the mind-numbing, brain-cell killing, vacuous excuse for a love story that ever filled the empty reaches of a hyper-hormonal adolescent skull. But there it was in all its hideousness.

I have only now recovered from that experience of several years ago — and without professional therapy. But with the coming of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2” I sensed a relapse into the mental void.

Only two things have kept me from slashing my wrists: 1) the fear that I could be attacked by puerile vampire sycophants attracted by the blood, and 2) funds raised by a preview showing of the latest “Twilight” will help Habitat for Humanity build a home for a needy Provo family.

Habitat’s Kena Jo Mathews noted that “fans can come and see the movie earlier and take a bite out of poverty in Utah County.” The preview will be hosted by Provo Towne Center on Nov. 15. Reserved seats are $15 and general admission is $12. Tickets can be purchased online at www.habitatuc.org or at the local Habitat office at 340 South Orem Blvd., Orem.

For once, this series will not be utterly without redeeming social significance.

Starting at $4.32/week.
