Et tu, NYT

By Randy Wright - | Jan 8, 2013

Even the vaunted New York Times can’t keep the terminology straight when it comes to taxation and national finance.

An article on Sunday by Brian Knowlton tried to explain the faceoff between Republicans and Democrats. Speaking of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Knowlton wrote: “McConnell did say he would favor reform if it was ‘revenue neutral,’ meaning that any new tax revenue would be matched by spending cuts.”

This is a dangerous shift in rhetoric. Don’t fall for it. Spending cuts and taxation income are apples and oranges. The term “revenue neutral” means that a policy results in zero change in taxes. It has nothing to do with cuts.

Be careful, my friends, because if the liberals, aided by the likes of the New York Times, can get this idea into the vernacular, you’ll never see a tax cut again as long as you live.
