Provo’s Los Hermanos Mexican Restaurant relocates Center Street
Downtown Provo’s Los Hermanos Mexican Restaurant has moved to a new location.
The restaurant, which was on the corner of University Avenue and Center Street for nearly 25 years, has found a new home across the street at 71 E. Center St. where the Italian restaurant Ottavio’s used to be located. The restaurant remains under the same management and will retain its entire staff.
The new location includes a spacious new kitchen and an atmospheric dining area that accommodates nearly as many guests as the old location. The restaurant retains its spot in the heart of historic downtown Provo while also offering patrons an extended parking area surrounding the restaurant and in the Wells Fargo free public parking structure.
The restaurant’s staff has been at work converting the new location’s décor from Italian to Mexican. The restaurant plans to retain the unique atmosphere and decorations of its previous location that have become iconic of the Los Hermanos Mexican Restaurant brand.
Manager David Cousins said he is “optimistic about the future of the restaurant.” Cousins said he believes the restaurant will continue to be a popular culinary destination and will remain competitive.
A letter from the restaurant management reads, “23 years ago Los Hermanos was a small restaurant with only two servers.” It explains how the restaurant went from such a small endeavor to the much larger operation it is today, employing hundreds of people and serving thousands of guests every week. “Hard work and creativity have made it what it is now, and we will carry these things into what we make of our new location,” the letter reads.
Long-time employee Eliseo Garcia is excited about the change. He said he believes the move will be to the benefit of the restaurant’s many employees as the spacious interior provides a better environment in which to work. Garcia mused about the possibilities of the new space, stating “there is much more room in the kitchen and storage area, and it will be a lot easier for everyone who is working.”
Los Hermanos Mexican Restaurant says it offer its customers “mini-vacations” in which they can dine on Mexican cuisine while being attended to by the restaurant’s friendly service staff in an “old Mexico” setting.
The restaurant has another location in Lindon. It has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including the Daily Herald’s publicly decided Best of the Valley award in Mexican Food in 2004. The restaurant’s head chef, Maria Alonso, received the Heart of the Industry’s Employee of the Year award in 2009.
