Revenue

Profire releases revenue estimates — Profire Energy, Inc., a technology company which manufactures, installs and services burner management systems and other combustion management technologies for the oil and gas industry, announced this week that it will release revenue and net income estimates for its 2013 fiscal year, as well as revenue and net income forecasts for its 2014 fiscal year, which are available on www.ProfireEnergy.com. The company emphasized that ongoing guidance will not be provided during the year, but hopes the new financial benchmarks can be used to measure company performance during the year.

Nu Skin has record first quarter — Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. announced record first-quarter results with revenue of $550.1 million, a 19 percent improvement over the prior-year period. Revenue was negatively impacted 3 percent by foreign currency fluctuations. Earnings per share for the quarter were $0.90, a 22 percent year-over-year improvement. Additionally, the company announced that it is increasing its full-year 2013 revenue guidance by $190 million to be in the $2.51 to $2.54 billion range. The new guidance includes a projected negative currency impact of 5 percent. The company now expects 2013 earnings to be in the range of $4.18 to $4.30 per share.

Selected as 2013 Utah Business honoree — Susan Madsen, a Utah Valley University professor of management and the Orin R. Woodbury Professor of Leadership and Ethics, was selected as one of “30 Women to Watch” by Utah Business Magazine. Nominated by their colleagues and peers, each of the 30 women selected by Utah Business was chosen for excellence in their professional accomplishments, community involvement and leadership abilities. She and the other honorees will be recognized by Utah Business at an awards reception in The Grand America Hotel, located at 555 S. Main St., Salt Lake City, Utah, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on May 17.

Madsen founded the statewide Utah Women and Education Project in 2009 and since then has worked to understand why more women are not completing college in Utah, and to create awareness and resources so that changes can be made to help more women attend and complete college. Madsen worked with Gov. Gary Herbert’s Utah Women’s College Task Force in 2011; and she helped create the Utah Women and Education Initiative in 2012, formed to enable more Utah women to contribute in their families, communities and the state with higher education as a means to empower them to accomplish that goal. The professor’s primary research area is developing women leaders, and she is chairing a global women and leadership conference in California this summer as well as currently conducting research in the Middle East on women and leadership. Madsen has authored two books and several scholarly articles on her research findings.

UVU Business and Economic Forum — The Business and Economic Forum will feature 20 workshops on May 21 with CE credits, two keynote speakers, and an engaging panel discussion on how to prepare your business for the impacts of the Affordable Healthcare Cart. The opening keynote speaker, Amy Rees Anderson, will speak on Entrepreneurship Best Practices for Best Rewards. Anderson is the founder and managing partner of REES Capital, a mentoring and angel investing firm; and was named 2012 CEO of the Year by Utah Business Magazine. She is also an author and serves as a weekly contributor to Forbes and the Huffington Post. UVU President Matthew S. Holland will also address attendees during the lunch hour discussing the ways in which businesses can interact with and benefit from UVU’s dynamic initiatives. Training workshops offered throughout the day will include: online marketing and advertising, legal issues in business, 50 tech tips, emerging estate issues, as well as 16 other topics related to management, marketing, and client relations. Utah Seed Fund Summit — Utah Valley Entrepreneurial Forum will host the 2013 Utah Seed Fund Summit on June 13 from noon to 1:30 p.m. UVEF is hosting a panel of early-stage seed funders. Each seed funding organizations has a fund of less than $50 million, and a history of funding less than $2 million in any single company at one time, and will be actively writing checks for $50,000 or more. Those organizations are: Jeff Burningham of Peak Capital Partners, Amy Rees Anderson of REES Capital, Clay Andrus of Plus550, Clarke Miyasaki of Kickstart Seed Fund, Steve Grizzell of InnoVentures Capital and Damon Kirchmeier of Auxano Funding and Inception Fund. The focus of the annual Utah Seed Fund Summit is to help capable investors learn how to be an LP of your fund, and to help entrepreneurs understand how to apply for funds with your firm.
