Provo Dojo – The Provo Dojo is hosting an open house Saturday featuring its new building that will house Coding Campus, Verisage and other companies that have called the Dojo “home” during the past two years. The open house is from 6 to 8 p.m. at 379 N. University Ave. in Provo, on the third floor, and is free and open to the public with light refreshments available to those in attendance. The recent StartUp Weekend Provo proved to be a successful event that brought together many local industry participants to develop startup businesses and has shown how the local tech community is growing in influence. Provo Dojo hopes to follow suit and help bridge Provo’s tech community with its residents. The Provo Dojo open house will provide an excellent chance for anyone considering learning more about developer camps, looking for information on startups, and those interested in tech opportunities in the area. It also reintroduces the Dojo as a community hub for those looking to connect. Potential students can also explore and talk with Coding Campus mentors and students — current and alumni — to discuss curriculum, environment, and internships and employment opportunities available through Coding Campus and its affiliates. For more information on Provo Dojo, Coding Campus, and its affiliates visit our website at www.codingcamp.us or email us at info@codingcamp.us.
Tech Talk — Tech Talk is at Weber State University’s brand new Davis Campus in Layton, 2750 N. University Park Blvd., Building D3, on March 19 from noon to 1:30 p.m. To register, go to Facebook.com/WomenTechCouncil. The Tech Talk speaker is Nicole Donnelly who is a CEO, strategist, author, speaker, former pro-snowboarder and successful entrepreneur. Her topic is “Embracing Fear and Leveraging Social Media to Become a Successful Entrepreneur.” Donnelly founded, grew and sold the internationally recognized brand of www.BabyLegs.com. In 2005, Donnelly cut the bottoms off old socks and slid them over her infant daughter’s legs during what she calls “nakedy butt time,” her solution to frequent diaper rashes. Other moms complimented the leg warmers, so she stuffed extra pairs into her diaper bag to sell at coffee shops and parks. By 2007, BabyLegs had sales of $3.8 million in 50 countries, including the U.S., Japan, Israel, Iceland and South Korea. In this Tech Talk, Nicole will share her path to becoming an entrepreneur, the challenges she faced along the way, and how she overcame them. She will also share her insights on how to successfully leverage social media to enable your company and protect your brand. She is an expert contributor on www.hybridmom.com and www.portfolio.com and the 2012-2013 Communications Director on the Board of EO Vancouver.
