Viral video ‘Email in Real Life’ touts Workfront
The YouTube video,”Email in Real Life,” by comedy duo Tripp Crosby and Tyler Stanton, is fast climbing in viewership, and local company Workfront is riding the wave.
After the Lehi company changed their name from AtTask, company marketing executives set out to create brand awareness for the name change. To that end, Workfront has new billboards lining the freeway throughout Utah, but the company knew it needed more. According to Heather Hurst, Workfront corporate marketing director, the company’s reach extends well beyond Utah so she looked for an ad campaign to fit.
“We saw Tripp and Tyler’s ‘A Conference Call in Real Life,’ video, and we loved it. When we approached them about sponsoring a video, it was pretty fortuitous that they had already been working on one about emails,” Hurst said.
Crosby said he and Stanton never intended to make a sequel to “A Conference Call in Real life,” but a few months ago they were brainstorming jokes about email for a completely unrelated project, and “Email in Real Life” was born.
“I’m not sure which one of us had the idea, because that’s just what we’ve agreed to say about all of our good ideas,” Crosby joked.
As Hurst explained, Workfront “calms the chaos of work emails” through their cloud-based work management solution, so partnering with Crosby and Stanton on this sketch was a perfect fit.
“Tripp and Tyler have a really strong audience and following. That’s why we reached out to them,” Hurst said.
The YouTube video went live April 7, and within a day, had more than 350,000 views. Two days later, it had amassed more than 740,000 views, and was cited online across the nation.
“Our goal is to make great content that doesn’t feel commercial, but still gives great exposure for the brand,” Crosby said. “We pass on many deals because we are pretty firm about keeping 100 percent of the control over the sketch content. The endorsement can be whatever the brand wants it to be, but our first priority is our audience. We want to give them our best.”
