Changes have been afoot at the Provo Daily Herald that will further benefit our readers and how you get your local news.

The Daily Herald announced a new management configuration Monday. Jordan Carroll, formerly the Community Editor and Digital Director, and Scott Tittrington, formerly the City News Editor, were both promoted to co-managing editors, and will share the responsibilities of overseeing all news operations.

With the June departure of the previous managing editor, the Herald and its head corporation, Lee Enterprises opted to restructure, utilizing the excellent talent pool already contained within the organization.

“Like many of the businesses in Utah Valley, we have incredibly talented folks working with us,” said Bob Williams, publisher for the Daily Herald. “We were looking at ways to organize our newsroom for the future and felt we had right people already here. We just needed to give them the right opportunity. Each of them brought a unique set of skills that complemented each other. Jordan has the online and innovative expertise to help us understand the media needs of our current readers and the next generation of readers. Scott has the local news and operational experience to coordinate our resources with our news gatherers.”

Carroll will continue in her responsibilities as the Digital Director, while also managing the Herald’s breaking news, sports, and entertainment coverage. Tittrington will oversee local, business and community news coverage, the photo department and the paper’s opinion content.

“The foundation of what we do at the Daily Herald and heraldextra.com — connecting people on a very local level — remains vitally important, and we will continue to strive to make our print and online products the best source of local and community Utah Valley news. I feel these appointments will help us achieve that,” Williams said.

“The media usage needs and desires of most of our readers are changing. More of them want their local news fast and on the go with their digital devices. This change allows us to provide more local news when it happens, and at their fingertips, without giving up anything on the print side,” Williams said.

Tittrington and Carroll both bring unique talents to the newsroom management of the Herald. Carroll has worked in various editorial management positions at the Herald for over three years. A native Texan, she is a graduate of Brigham Young University and lives in downtown Provo.

Tittrington is also a transplant, hailing from California originally. Previously he was a sports writer at the Herald, and after a stint in California, he returned to Utah to work as the Herald’s City Editor. He has almost 20 years of journalism experience, and currently resides in Eagle Mountain.

“I’m excited to work alongside Jordan in leading the Daily Herald newsroom, and to see what type of impact our entire team can have in reporting the news in Utah Valley. I’m proud of this newspaper and the role I have been entrusted with, and will work hard to show readers we should be their No. 1 source for local news,” Tittrington said.

Together, Tittrington and Carroll plan to continue leading the newspaper in a manner already forged by a season of working very much in tandem to improve the quality and delivery of the Herald’s news.

“As we stand now, the Daily Herald reaches more people and is consumed by more readers than ever before in its history,” Carroll said. “We look forward to helping navigate the newspaper through future changes and adaptations that ultimately provide readers with a greater understanding of their community and decisions that need to be made.”
