Businesswoman from Lehi honored

Kimberly Mortenson of Lehi recently earned one of the highest rankings as a Plexus Worldwide ambassador.

Of more than 615,000 independent business owners worldwide, Mortenson was among a small number of Plexus Worldwide ambassadors invited to Scottsdale, Arizona to participate in a three-day leadership training session at the health and happiness company’s headquarters. Her invitation to the leadership program was based on the growth of her home-based Plexus business.

Plexus Worldwide is a direct-selling health, wellness and weight management company.

Used bookstore opens in AF

Craving a nearby location for used books beyond the local thrift shops, Heidi Rowley, a former journalist and single mom, decided to do something about it. She will celebrate the grand opening of HideAway Books in American Fork on Saturday.

The store features thousands of quality used children’s books, organized by reading level, and a few thousand books for moms, dads, grandparents, and other grown-ups in the family as well. Rowley, a Highland resident and book lover, found that while Provo and Salt Lake County had great used book resources, the growing area of northern Utah County did not.

“I am an avid reader of books for the same reason I was a newspaper reporter for several years, I love stories,” she said. “I’m most attracted to either real stories, or the what-if stories that could be real. But my children are drawn to completely different types of books.”

The store’s grand opening will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 67 N. Center St. in American Fork, across from the city’s Fire Department. There will be face painting, giveaways, drawings, and a visit from children’s author Adam Sidwell, who wrote the Evertaster series, as well as “Fetch” and “Chum.”

“Nothing makes me happier than watching children get sucked into a new story. I love it,” Rowley said. “I can’t wait to bring that bookstore experience to children and families in our community.”

Podium makes Glassdoor list

Glassdoor, one of the world’s largest job sites, recently announced the winners of its Employees’ Choice Awards, honoring the Best Places to Work in 2018 in five countries across North America and Europe. Unlike other workplace awards, winners are determined entirely on feedback provided by those who really know a company best — the employees.

Lehi-based Podium was the only Utah County business on the Top 50 United States small- to medium-sized business list, coming at No. 16. According to one employee who contributed to the rankings, “Podium is an organization where you find yourself surrounded by people smarter than you but those same people are willing to step in and coach, contribute, and drive you to be your best.”

Starting at $4.32/week.
