Daily Herald publisher adds same role at Standard-Examiner
Rhett Long, publisher of the Daily Herald in Provo, will add publisher of the Standard-Examiner in Ogden to his title.
Long was named publisher of the Standard-Examiner on Monday. He will continue as publisher of the Daily Herald, overseeing both news organizations, which are both owned by Ogden Newspapers of Utah. Long said he will continue the community partnerships, efforts and friendships he has formed in Utah County, while also cultivating similar relationships in Weber County.
“I’m looking forward to digging in here, just like I did there,” Long said in a phone interview from Ogden.
This is not the first time he’s run multiple units, he said. Long is a former publisher and president of The Spectrum in St. George and Spectrum Media. During his time there, he oversaw not only The Spectrum in St. George, but also the Daily News in Cedar City and the Desert Valley Times in Mesquite, Nevada, according to an article in the Standard-Examiner.
West Virginia-based Ogden Newspapers, owner of the Daily Herald, is purchasing the Standard-Examiner, with the sale expected to close at the end of May. Long said he expects to spend the next six months working mainly in Ogden as the Standard-Examiner staff adjusts to new ownership. Eventually he will split his time between the two locations.
“I’ll spend my time at each as dictated by the needs of the papers,” he said.
As part of the sale, Ogden Newspapers purchased the Standard-Examiner office and printing press.
