Employees of Qualtrics work in their office in Provo on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014.

Qualtrics, a tech company based in Provo and Seattle, announced Wednesday it would be laying off 780 employees, 15% of its staff, across the company.

Employees were notified in an email from CEO Zig Serafin, which was later posted to the Qualtrics website.

“Rapid hiring was essential to enable our growth up to this point, but it also created complexity that does not support continued growth at our scale,” Serafin wrote. “Simply put, the organizational structures, work processes and the way we made decisions previously don’t work for the company we’ve become, or the company we aspire to be.”

In addition to layoffs, several hundred jobs will be changing locations or adjusting roles, the letter said.

U.S. employees who lost their positions will receive at least 10 weeks of severance pay and will be eligible for other benefits like health insurance and performance bonus amounts.

“To those who are leaving, I am truly sorry,” Serafin wrote. “I know this explanation doesn’t make it any better for you. On behalf of the entire company, thank you for everything you’ve given to Qualtrics, and for the chapters you have helped to write.”

Many laid-off employees began posting on LinkedIn on Wednesday looking for work, including many employees in Utah. According to LinkedIn posts, the company’s diversity, equity and inclusion manager and a recruiter for diversity programs and initiatives were among those let go.

In July, Qualtrics announced it would be investing $500 million in artificial intelligence over the next four years.

According to a press release from July 19, the company announced XM/os2, the “next generation of the Qualtrics platform, fully enabled with artificial intelligence (AI) to help organizations act with empathy and create more relevant and meaningful experiences.”

Qualtrics is an experience management company that was founded in Utah more than 10 years ago, with one of the founders being Ryan Smith, who is now the majority owner of the Utah Jazz and co-owner of Real Salt Lake.

Starting at $4.32/week.
