Sunday Drive: An eagle adventure in the 2024 Toyota Tacoma
Embarking on a road trip is always an exciting endeavor. But when paired with the prospect of attending Bald Eagle Day with two of our grandkids and getting some time in the all-new Toyota Tacoma, things couldn’t have been more perfect.
Having the Tacoma for a week that included the weekend for this adventure was awesome as it proved to be a sturdy and reliable companion ready to tackle the scenic route from Springville to Fountain Green and any weather Mother Nature had in store the last week of January.
Setting the scene: A grandparents’ road trip
As we set off from Springville, the gleaming deep red exterior of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma had us standing out on the road. Its new, rugged design hinted at the power beneath the hood and promised a smooth and comfortable ride for our journey. Our grandkids, equally excited about the prospect of getting out with the grandparents and perhaps viewing a bald eagle or two, took up the back seat of the mid-sized truck with grins that spoke of the adventure ahead.
The Tacoma’s new interior was a pleasant surprise, boasting modern features seamlessly integrated with a classic design. The leather-trimmed seats provided comfort for the long drive, and the dual-zone climate control ensured everyone stayed content throughout the journey. As we familiarized ourselves with the intuitive infotainment system, it was easy to hook up our phones wirelessly and listen to anything the grandkids wanted.
On the road: Performance and comfort
The true test of any vehicle is its performance on the open road, and the Toyota Tacoma did not disappoint. Before the truck arrived, we were curious as to how it would handle with a new four-cylinder turbocharged engine as opposed to the outgoing 3.5-liter V-6 engine. The new setup came with 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, and we could not see any difference from last year’s model.
It will get even better as the hybrid model comes out, as it will have 326 horsepower and a whopping 465 pound-feet of torque. We also found the steering responsive, and the smooth suspension added to the overall driving experience, making the journey both enjoyable and comfortable.
We appreciated the Tacoma’s advanced safety features, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance, which contributed to a stress-free drive. Navigating through the scenic landscapes with the grandkids in tow was a breeze, and the Tacoma’s performance instilled confidence in the vehicle’s capabilities.
Adventures along the way: Fountain Green and Bald Eagle Day
As we approached Fountain Green, the excitement in the Tacoma was palpable. The vibrant discussions about bald eagles, nature conservation and the grandeur of these majestic birds filled the cabin — of course, the hot chocolate that would be there also helped. The Tacoma’s spacious back seat accommodated the grandkids’ curiosity, as they eagerly gazed out of the windows, soaking in the scenic beauty along the way.
Bald Eagle Day, organized by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, was a captivating experience for all. The Toyota Tacoma parked confidently among other vehicles, standing out with its red exterior. The event offered a unique opportunity for our grandkids to learn about wildlife conservation, witness live eagles and engage with experts passionate about preserving the majestic birds.
Cargo capacity and utility: A pleasant surprise
On the return journey, we tested the Tacoma’s cargo capacity in the cab by loading it up with souvenirs and educational materials from our many stops. The kids had more than enough room to store their stuff and partake of the treats supplied by Grandma Deanne.
The innovative bed features, including the power-operated rear window and the versatile tie-down cleats, would be awesome for anyone’s outdoor adventure. The Tacoma’s bed liner and optional tonneau cover would ensure that all cargo remained secure and protected through the drive.
Technology and connectivity: Enhancing the journey
As we headed back to Springville, the grandkids took advantage of the Tacoma’s rear-seat USB ports to charge their devices. The Entune Premium Audio system filled the cabin with their favorite tunes, providing the perfect backdrop for the last leg of our adventure. The optional JBL speaker system delivered crisp and immersive sound, creating a lively atmosphere within the Tacoma.

In our 160-mile round trip from Springville to Fountain Green and back, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma proved to be more than just a means of transportation; it became an integral part of our grand adventure. Combining performance, comfort, safety and technology, the Tacoma exceeded our expectations.
The Tacoma’s adaptability, both on and off the road, showcased its prowess as a versatile vehicle suitable for family adventures, outdoor pursuits and everyday commutes.
