Freedom Festival Parade Facts
The Freedom Festival Grand Parade will begin at 9 a.m. on July 4th. In anticipation of this beloved parade, we’ve compiled a list of fun facts.
• The parade will be broadcast on Provo Channel 17 on Comcast and Veracity within the Provo City limits. It will also be available live online at channel17.provo.org.
• There will be a total of 16 bands in the parade.
• This year’s line up includes some 22 floats.
• Horse lovers will delight in the 10 equestrian entries.
• Volunteers total a whopping 400 this year
• Honoring our beloved military, there will be some 32 military vehicles. They will be lined up according to war: WWI with two vehicles, WWII with 15 vehicles, then Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and modern vehicles. All of these will be followed by a cannon.
• Helium balloons are always a crowd favorite. This year’s lineup includes appearances by Curious George in a space suit, Madeline and a cowboy
• Speaking of the balloons, did you know it takes 10,500 cubic feet of helium to inflate the three balloons.
• When nature calls, no need to worry. Everyone’s favorite necessity will be available. There will be some 70-80 “Honey Buckets” along the parade route.
• Grand Marshal for the 2015 parade is hometown favorite LaVell Edwards, He will ride the route in a Jaguar, followed by five favorite quarterbacks in a stretch limousine. Come to the parade to see who these notable quarterbacks are. They want to pay tribute to LaVell.
