Payson: City features a lengthy summer lineup

By Rick Moore - | Jul 3, 2016

Payson has some great events planned for the summer of 2016.

Next week, Payson will enjoy the 32nd annual Scottish Festival and Highland Games, July 8 and 9 at Memorial Park. There will be a parade, games, booths and activities to participate in.

Later in the month, Payson will introduce the first-ever Central Utah Valley Western Heritage Night. As part of the event, the city will host a Dutch oven dinner and concert featuring Billy Dean on at 6 p.m. July 23 at the Peteetneet Amphitheatre, located at 100 North 600 East.

The cost is $25 for the dinner and concert. If you do not want to participate in the dinner, concert tickets are only $10. You can purchase tickets at www.paysonutah.org/tickets.

The Payson Community Band is back for their summer concert series, performing every Sunday evening at 8 p.m. through Sept. 4. It’s a great time to come and relax in Memorial Park and listen as the band plays old-time favorites.

The Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah, one of America’s toughest cycling stage races, is making another stop in Payson this year. The race begins Aug. 1 and concludes Aug. 7. Day three of the race will finish at Memorial Park on the afternoon of Aug. 3. Please come and enjoy the festivities at the park and watch these amazing professional athletes compete for the Tour of Utah crown.

August will bring the 62nd annual Salmon Supper, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 5 at Memorial Park. If you haven’t seen the Payson Fire Department feed 5,000 people, come and see for yourselves how salmon is cooked to perfection over fruit wood on the streets of Payson. You can purchase tickets at www.paysonutah.org/news_events.salmonsupper.html.

The Payson Community Theater always will present a top-notch performance. This summer will feature a performance of “Into The Woods” Aug. 25-27 and Sept. 1-5.

Payson City Golden Onion Days will be Labor Day weekend from Sept. 1-5, with a free concert sponsored by Mountain View Hospital that Thursday featuring Collin Raye. We are expecting over 5,000 to attend. Come and enjoy the many events during the weekend and attend the Onion Days parade on at 10 a.m. Sept. 5.

Finally, as a reminder during the month of July, please be careful with fireworks. Due to the hot and dry weather, please use caution and only light fireworks in allowed areas. Please visit the city website to view a map showing the areas where fireworks are prohibited.

Be safe but have fun, and we hope to see you in Payson this summer.

Starting at $4.32/week.
